When I think of 2Deep I think of gunshot noises, airhorns, killer breaks and rude boy samples. DJ sets I’ve heard from Primetime feature similar sounds and both 2Deep and Primetime have been featured on the same SoCal moombahton events including an upcoming Muevelo. Thus, it’s no surprise that they decided to get in the studio and do a collaborative track. Check out “Jamaicuhh” from 2Deep and Primetime. Peak hour, soundbwoy bizness.
You’ve heard of 2Deep but check out the sounds of Primetime collaborating with another new name, Husky Shuffle.
This sexy minimal moombahton rework of Waka and Roscoe’s “No Hands” was one of those things that I found and just didn’t stop listening to all day. The proper combination of elements not only make this an outstanding piece of moombahton but just excellent music. Very few tracks singularly create a chill vibe and make you want to get hype at the same time. Quite honestly, the first artist I thought of that can do that is Justin Timberlake (don’t hate) but more to the point, this track is reminiscent of King Kong’s Justin Timberlake remix that still finds it’s way into DJ sets and is a known favorite of DJ Umb. Anyway, Puga made this remix and deserves a ton of credit. My words don’t really do this song justice.
This next track is a really solid effort from a pair that were making their first moombahton track. While the individual elements are not unique in this track, the overall composition is well done and I chose to include it in my most recent mix. While this freshman outing comes recommended, I would like to see the artists push harder to find a unique sound. They did a damn good job of capturing today’s sound but both they and other emergent artists need to focus on finding tomorrow’s jams.
The moombahton community has it’s own internal rhythm and it seems that as summer dawns, moombahsoul is once again a big topic of discussion. One person who is striving to make this a summer of soul is Fabian Cruz aka C.O.D.A. Once recognizable as a member of the Mango Troops, C.O.D.A. has made a name for himself as a solo artist, largely through making sweet and soulful music. His remix of the Weekend’s “Montreal” has been very popular but you may not have it yet. Now is your chance. In addition, those interested in having their music featured in a moombahsoul compilation should send tracks to Fabian Cruz. codaofficial@gmail.com
Definitely hope that many of you read our post yesterday about Diplo’s “Express Yourself” EP being released and copped the whole album already. If not, I wanted to call attention to a track that many of you may have heard in the sets of Sazon Booya and other heavy hitters in recent months. “Butter Theme” is a collaboration between Diplo and Billy the Gent and Longjawns so fans of the genre know it’s going to set the club off. And really….it does set things off quite nicely. Sexy redefined.
