I have one freebie and one awesome Beatport release to report to the Moomba+ Massive today. DJ Melo’s “Sol Sauce” EP on the Sol Selectas series is the one you have to buy but if you are like me, you were just waiting for the opportunity. These tracks have a very Latin feel and represent much of what is right with moombahton. Because Beatport refuses to label moombahton as such, these tracks are listed under “House” music but in reality, these tracks are very “housey”. I think between the rise of bigroombahton, a slight pitch increase (114-115bpm is more normal now) and the use of classic house sounds like Latin horns and percussion we can see that calling moombahton house music isn’t actually all that crazy. And in a world that is fast turning away from dubstep and complextro, this move towards classic dance floor sounds couldn’t happen at a better time or to a better genre. House/moomba all night long!
